Below is the letter sent to ACT Minister:
Dear Minister
I write to you in your capacity as Minister for Business and Regulatory Affairs.
I act on behalf of the ACT Taxi Plate Owners Association (“the Association”).
The Association is concerned that the ACT Government’s decision to release immediately a
further 30 taxi plates will dilute the value of ACT taxi plates. The release of plates will occur
after a ten month delay during which the Government undertook to consult the industry. The
absence of proper consultation could construe the Government’s decision as being arbitrary
and peremptory in nature.
In consequence of the ACT’s decision to release these additional taxi plates, I am writing to
put you on notice that unless the ACT provides an undertaking that it will stay its decision to
release further taxi plates within the ACT until it has allowed a consultation to take place
which is of a minimum period of 60 days, we will take instructions from the Association to
seek injunctive relief against the Territory.
Please provide this undertaking within seven days from the date of this letter. Unless a
satisfactory response is provided within this timeframe, my clients will have no choice but to
commence action with no further notice to you. I hope this will not be necessary.
