ACT Ministerial Communication on Taxi Issues

ACT Minister’s Response to Government Buyback or financial compensation

2024, 21 June – Response from Minister Steel on Request to Review Taxi Lease Rates

Note: As  ACT Transport Minister, he has a governance obligation to ensure that ACT Taxi Licences are managed as a community asset in alignment with public interest, economic sustainability, and regulatory compliance. This means that he can govern licence allocation, pricing, and regulation to promote fairness and service quality. Fairness has not been achieved as the market is flooded with Uber and commercial vehicles, making the industry on the verge of being unsustainable.
