I SUPPORT fair and proper compensation for all Taxi Licence Owners who lost the value of their ACT Taxi licences since the ACT Government changed the rules governing the Taxi industry in 2017. Rideshare’s arrival saw drastic changes to the ACT taxi industry lease fees from $20,000 per year to $5000 and perpetual taxi licence values from $320,000 down to $20,000.

ACT Taxi Licence Owners who had stuck to the rules for years woke up to find their world had changed overnight and that the value of their long term investments in Taxi licences had plummeted.

Many Taxi Licence Owners were planning to use the value of their licences to fund their retirement.

I SUPPORT the introduction of a Passenger Service Levy to make sure Taxi Licence Owners receive fair and proper compensation for their losses in the form of a taxi buy back by the government, for all ACT Perpetual Taxi Licences.

I SUPPORT a viable, affordable, regulated and reliable Taxi industry that is available to all passengers in all areas of ACT.

The ACTTPOA will be submitting the pledges sent by you and signed by the ACT Members of Parliament to the ACT Government to advocate for fair and proper compensation for Taxi Licence Owners in ACT, get the reforms right and enable provision of certainty to communities and customers who rely on Taxis, especially vulnerable user groups across the Territory and those in regional and rural ACT.

Visiting your local MP and getting the ACT Taxi Industry pledge signed is the most important and urgent action you can do right now.
